A few weeks ago we received a Large Veg Box from Abel and Cole to review for them and I wanted to share it with you all.
What is Abel and Cole?
Abel & Cole is an award-winning organic food home delivery service. Founded by Keith Abel in 1988, Abel & Cole currently delivers to over 20,000 customers each week. Abel & Cole’s product and service are second to none. They seek out small, local producers who supply then with food and drink which is hard to come by elsewhere. The range includes seasonal fruit and vegetables, freshly baked breads, fish, meat, dairy products, drinks, and the range is always expanding.
The service is friendly and flexible which is something loved by all as Abel & Cole has won many awards, including the industry’s top accolade, the Soil Association’s Organic Retailer of the Year and The National Customer Service Award for three years in a row!
what do they say
“At Abel & Cole, we work our organic cotton socks off, scouring the country to find all sorts of fabulous fruit and vegetables and beautifully made foods. We work with downright brilliant (but barmy) farmers who believe, like me, that good food doesn’t need lots of scary stuff added to it to taste delicious.”
“We work directly with the best farmers, butchers, bakers and carrot-stick makers in the land. They’re the best in their field. We know exactly how your food is made, how it’s grown and what does, or more importantly doesn’t, go into it.”
“Every week you’ll get a reliable supply of delicious, fresh organic veg. And we’ll give you simple yet inspired free recipes to help you cook up a storm every day of the week.”
our box and what we thought
When the box was delivery I was pleasantly surprised to find so much of each item. We had:
– Abergine
– Carrots
– Chrad
– Cos Lettuce
– Courgettes
– French Beans
– Leeks
– Potatoes
– Red Pepper
– Savoy Cabbage
– Sweet Potatoes
– Tomatoes
Most of the items looked like they had been pulled out of the ground minutes before they arrived, they were that fresh! Not to mention how big everything was. I don’t think I have ever seen a pepper like this before.
My favourite item was without a doubt the Sweet Potatoes, I loved them and these made the best chunky chips ever – sweet and savory all in one mouthful. Luck LOVED the French Beans and couldn’t get enough of them, to the extent of taking more from my plate. With the winter coming in I made a pork casserole and used the Carrots, Potatoes, Tomatoes and some parsnips we already had, it turned out amazingly, all the veg cooked into it so well and tasted great.
All in all I think Abel and Cole are an awesome company and everyone should try them, even if it’s just once.

I’ve never tried Abel and Cole but have been with Gousto for a few months now (I saw you also did a review of their box on your blog here http://www.onlinemummy.co.uk/gousto-simply-cook/). The vegetables above look great but I just worry I wouldn’t know what to do with them all
