NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils

My first time trying anything matte on my lips and I’ve been blown away. I always thought anything with a matte finish would be drying but in this case I’m delighted to find out that I was wrong.

I have two of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils in the shades ‘Pop Life’ and ‘Dolce Vita’ that I want to talk about today so let’s get started shall we?

Let’s talk about the shades first… Pop Life is a shimmering true red shade. It really lovely for a sophisticated night out or a romantic meal with the other half. I’m not one for wearing red on my lips much but I like (really like) how this looks on my lips. Dolce Vita is a beautiful dusty rose which gives a lovely touch of warmth to the face. I like to wear this with a smokey gold eye, I think the two complement each other so well.

Now for the formula. These are by far the easiest lip pencils to apply EVER. They are strangely creamy and buttery for being Matte (but that’s a good thing). The glide on smoothly and effortlessly leaving a completely matte finish. It doesn’t cake up or smudge over the lip line. You don’t need any liner and best yet, they last for hours (about 5 in my case) before you need to reapply.

I love how the packaging looks, I’m a fan of that almost rubberised look that’s on the lid. The lids are nice and tight so I’m not worried about any messes being made where ever I have them (either my handbag or makeup bag). The one thing I would maybe change is that you need to sharpen the pencils rather than wind them up which I think will result in a small amount of wasted product but hopefully not too much.

With a price-tag of £17.50 each they are expensive but I think they will last for a long time and unlike a lipstick, they wont dry up if you don’t use them up quickly. I would defiantly recommend picking up a few if you can. I know I want more after trying these two out.
